Terminology:What is 5G (5th Generation)?

Sales Department Yasuhiko Takeuchi

It refers to the fifth-generation mobile communication system. In Japan, RF bands such as the 3.7GHz band, 4.5GHz band, and 28GHz band have been allocated. Among these, the 3.7GHz band and 4.5GHz band are referred to as “sub-6” due to their frequencies being below 6GHz. On the other hand, the 28GHz band is called “millimeter wave.” Generally, millimeter waves refer to the frequency band from 30 GHz to 300GHz, but in Japan, the 28GHz band is also included in the term “millimeter wave.”
①High-speed, high-capacity (eMBB: enhanced Mobile Broadband)
②High-reliability, low-latency communication (URLLC: Ultra-Reliable and Low Latency Communications)
③Massive machine-type communication (mMTC: massive Machine Type Communication)
These three characteristics are expected to enable various applications such as 4K/8K, VR/AR experiences, sports viewing, remote technology, autonomous driving, and IoT.
