Waka flex cables
(SWF-18/30)

  • background

Although normal flexible cables have flexibility, their shielding performance is low and they are easily affected by noise. Furthermore, it is difficult to use them as far as broadband, so there was a demand for flexible cables with high shielding performance that could be used with broadband.
  • problem

Normal flexible cables can be obtained cheaply and possess flexibility, and they can be easy to handle even in situations involving internal wiring for devices, etc. But because of their low shielding performance and susceptibility to noise, there were issues about their use around antennae and in control units.
There are cables with a double layer of braiding to increase shielding performance, but they are difficult to handle because the double layer of braiding makes the cable harder. Normal flexible cables are also difficult to use with broadband.
Compared with flexible cables, semi-flexible cables can be used with broadband and have high shielding performance, but in terms of their construction, the cable itself feels hard.
  • solution

In order to solve these kinds of issues, we developed the Waka flex cables SWF-18 and SWF-30, which are flexible cables to our original design.

    Combining high-frequency characteristics and flexibility
Due to the braided wire being encased in a copper layer, the shielding performance is high when compared with normal flexible cables, and they satisfy the same electrical characteristics as semi-flexible cables, being usable at DC to 18 GHz.

    High isolation characteristics
Because of good isolation, they have an extensive track record of adoption, and can be used for antenna substrate evaluation and internal wiring for mass-produced products.

Our line-up of Waka flex cables includes two types with an outer diameter of either 1.8 mm or 3.0 mm, which are suitable for a variety of uses.
